Secondhand Car Dealers Report

Peace of mind motoring
A verdict on the UK's £24bn secondhand car market has been published by the fair trading watchdog, The Office of Fair Trading (OFT). One in five of the 3.6 million people buying a secondhand car from a dealer each year were reported to have experienced a problem.

The report highlighted the responsibility that garages have for offering a “good service” and encouraging consumers to use reputable garages when purchasing their vehicles. One of the main areas to be highlighted in their study related to the burden of proof especially if any deflects occurs within 6 months of the car being sold. This lay firmly with the dealer as any fault with the vehicle within this period is deemed to have been present at time of sale and down to the garage to prove otherwise.

“This may seem onerous and yet another financial obstacle for a garage, but the good
news is that we have a product that can cover the majority of the financial risk whilst improving customer retention, peace of mind and sales” commented AutoProtect.
